Markets today: Tesla headlines a crowded earnings day
Six large-caps report as weekly oil inventories and fresh mortgage data anchor an otherwise light economic calendar.

Tesla is the marquee name on a heavy Wednesday for corporate results. Five other large-caps report alongside it. The economic calendar is thin, with no top-tier data on the schedule, and the day’s reads run across autos, semiconductors, telecom, power equipment and enterprise software.
On the calendar today
The economic slate is light. It skews toward energy. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s weekly 30-year mortgage rate opened the schedule at 7:00 a.m. ET, printing 6.69% against 6.65% a week earlier. The reading is a weekly gauge of what homebuyers pay to borrow. The main data point comes mid-morning. At 10:30 a.m. ET the Energy Information Administration reports weekly crude oil inventories, a measure of how much crude sits in commercial storage nationwide. The forecast is a draw of 1.5 million barrels, after a 1.693 million-barrel draw the prior week. The agency’s gasoline stocks, down 1.533 million barrels last week, come out at the same time. No high-tier release sits on today’s calendar, and the agenda carries no other major economic reports. That leaves the inventory figures as the only scheduled data with much market pull.
Reporting today
The earnings list is broad. Six names Bellwize covers report today: GE Vernova in power and grid equipment, IBM in enterprise IT, ServiceNow in cloud workflow software, AT&T in telecom, Tesla in electric vehicles, and Texas Instruments in analog chips. The group reaches from industrial power to consumer autos to semiconductors. All six report during the summer earnings season, when large-cap results cluster into a few busy weeks.
Backdrop
The three major indexes finished Tuesday higher. The S&P 500 rose 0.89%, or 65.92 points, to 7,509.20. The Dow added 0.74%, up 385.38 points, to 52,224.64. The Nasdaq Composite led, climbing 1.29%, or 329.13 points, to 25,837.21. Each of the five gauges Bellwize tracks rose on the day. The VIX gained 3.46% to 17.64, and the 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 4.60%.
What to watch
Tesla anchors the day. It headlines the earnings list and carries the megacap-tech read. Texas Instruments arrives the same session and offers a separate window into analog-chip demand. Chips and megacap tech supply two of the day’s clearest threads. IBM and ServiceNow fill out the enterprise-software names, while AT&T brings the telecom side. On the macro front, the 10:30 a.m. inventory data is the one scheduled item with real market pull, setting the weekly reference point for crude and gasoline prices. Beyond the calendar, the day belongs to the earnings docket.
